Primary Gifted Education K-3
"Gifted and talented children" means those persons between the ages of five and twenty-one whose abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their educational needs.  Lewis Palmer District 38's gifted education department provides for identification and programming for these unique individuals.

Bear Creek Elementary School has talented educators with significant experience and training in meeting the needs of gifted students across the board.  These same educators are very adept at pinpointing academic talents and needs as well as offering clever and engaging educational experiences.

In screening for gifted potential in younger students, three out of four criteria need to support an identification.

-Ability
-Achievement
-Behavior Characteristics
-Demonstrated Performance

Should three out of the four listed areas indicate a need for gifted services, primary students experience programming as listed below.

**Classroom teachers offer differentiated instruction on a daily basis.
**All subject areas are open to enrichment, depth, and rigor.
**Once a week, for a 30 minute time period, the gifted education facilitator works with the primary gifted students on problem solving and visual/spatial tasks.

For more specifics about the LPSD gifted screening process, please visit the
district's gifted department site.
